Early Morning Workout – Cardio Circuit

Happy Hump Day!

Today is going to be a very busy day. With a workout already in the books I have a full day of work and then I head back home to help out with my hometown basketball program.

I always love to help coach back home. There is something about teaching the girls new things and seeing them get better that I truly enjoy. I remember those days of constant court workouts and dribbling drills and I honestly have to say, I miss it. My father always told me when I would complain about having to go to practice, that one day I would miss it. And yes dad, you were right! πŸ™‚ (Dad, I wouldn’t get used to hearing that either, it’s close to Father’s Day so I’m trying to get some brownie points!)

What I miss the most is the competitiveness of the workouts. As much as I hated court workouts and shooting drills, I secretly loved them and would give anything to do one right now. I know if any of my teammates from college read this they will think I’m crazy, and maybe I am, but I always loved the feeling of accomplishment after a workout that seemed almost impossible.

My workout this morning was inspired by my circuit workouts I used to do on a daily basis for basketball. I’m getting all geared up for practice tonight! πŸ™‚

What you’ll need for this workout:

A treadmill…

Or if you don’t have access to a treadmill, open space with some pretty awesome running shoes will do the trick…

…floor mat, medicine ball and an exercise ball…

…and a stopwatch.

(My circuit part of the workout along with stretching took about 32 minutes)

The workout:

  • Start with a 1 mile run at whatever pace fits you best.
  • Then begin the Circuit (you should move to and from each workout as quickly as possible)
  • Cardio Circuit Workout
    Time Exercise
    2:00 run at 8.0 MPH or jog in place as quick as you can
    :30 plank
    :30 stay in plank knee to elbow alternate sides
    1:00 medicine ball squats to floor raise ball over head
    :30 push-ups
    :30 plank running
    1:00 jumping jacks
    1:00 medicine ball warrior twist
    1:00 mountain climbers
    :30 plia squats with a jump every two squats
    :30 four squat punches, jump and hit inside of feet together
    1:00 burpees
    Repeat 3 times through
  • End the circuit with some Hampstring curls on the medicine ball – (1 set of 10 on left leg, 1 set of 10 on right leg, 1 set of 10 with both legs)
  • And lastly, stretch out all those muscles!

Just the circuit workout alone took me about 32 minutes as well as about 8:30 for the 1 mile run in the beginning of the workout. I love doing circuit workouts because it makes the 40 minutes go by so fast and I feel like my entire body got a very good workout in! Especially so early in the morning πŸ™‚

My fitbit says I am quite active at 6:30 in the morning!
