Have you ever thought of making your own life mission statement? I’m sure many of you have set goals in school, at work and for your overall career. The question I have for you today is this: is God ever a part of those goals?
This morning I wrote a mission statement for my life.
I will live a life with God’s desires in my heart and spread His love and joy to those around me with everything I do.
I want this statement to ground me when I seem to lose my way. I want to fall on this mission statement when I seem to be striving for the success of the world.
The crazy thing about trusting in God’s plan is that when we say yes and follow the plans He has created for us, He takes care of all the other details. He fills our hearts with His own desires and he provides us with every little piece of the puzzle that we need in order to live out our mission statement.
Something that really hit home for me last summer when I was unemployed and searching for jobs, was the difference between being a Christian and actually spending time with God. I had a lot of time on my hands and began spending a lot of time reading devotionals and praying to God. Once my heart and life was focused on Him, I felt like I began to discover His purpose for my life. Within weeks job opportunities came up and my heart was filled with so much joy.
Now don’t think this is something you discover once and now for the rest of your life you know what your purpose is, because that is far from true! As I began to work, I began to spend my time doing other things. I began to ask myself the questions I’m sure you have all asked as well, “What does God want me to do? Is this the job He really wants me to have? Will this get me to where I need to be in 5 years?” And the questions went on and on…
The answer to these questions my friends is so simple, yet so difficult for us to do. It comes from Proverbs 3 versus 5-6:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Simple right?! All we need to do is trust God to take our lives in the direction He wants for us. Unfortunately, this is far from simple because as humans we aren’t patient. We are so used to earthly success and seeing the rewards of our accomplishments that it’s hard to trust in Someone that we have never seen. This Someone knows much more than you do about life and what is to come, why not trust in him?!
As I have felt God move in my life many times before, it takes hard work and a lot of time spent with Him to keep His purpose for your life in your heart. Once you commit and continue your way to God, He will place you in the exact position He wants you to occupy on this earth. It is a matter of simple, basic trust in God.
Today, I encourage you to take five minutes and write out your own personal mission statement.
Instead of striving for the success of the world, abide in God and trust in the One who has placed you here with a purpose.
I’m so excited to hear your own personal mission statement. Please feel free to share below 🙂
