Today is a very special day for me! First let me do a little Tuesday dance before I explain! Woohh!
You see, today marks my one year anniversary at the marketing firm I work at, image.works. This past year has been a roller coaster of highs, lows, excitement and stress. It feels like I just started yesterday, yet with the amount of knowledge I have gained, it seems I’ve been there forever!
When I graduated two May’s ago, I was on the prowl for the perfect job. My main goal was to find a job where I could help others every day. Of course, we all know how difficult finding, applying and getting a good job is. Instead of enjoying my last summer, I stressed about money, networking and everything else that comes with being unemployed. I hated the feeling when Tyler would wake up early, go to work and I would be at the house all day finding things to do. Now looking back, those were the best days of my life. I found myself painting, working out, experimenting in the kitchen and growing closer to God every single day. I was living life!
It’s so crazy how God moves in our lives. Seriously, most of us take what we are given and don’t think twice about it. I’m human, so of course that happens to me too, but this is where it gets to be fun. While I was going through the difficult yet amazing time of unemployment, I wrote in my Bible about the things God was teaching me on a daily basis. Now looking at them a year later, it’s such a good reminder of God’s love and how I got to where I am today.
This morning as I was flipping through my Bible, I ran into a verse that hit home for me a year ago:
Psalm 141: 23-24: “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
My response a year ago: “Since God is in complete control, each day you are unemployed is a day He has chosen to have you be unemployed and God has meaningful activity for you during those days. Go to James 1:5 ‘Wisdom’.”
James 1:5: “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.”
My response a year ago: “Use this as an opportunity to learn to trust Him and a stepping stone for a better future.”
Well, it’s my future today and it’s the most amazing feeling to see how far I have come. My responses a year ago are the same for me today! Even though I have a wonderful copywriting job, I know God has complete control of my present and future.
I hope, on this beautiful day, you can walk away with this: He has chosen how long you will be where you are in your life right now. He will change your career path or put a curve in your road when it’s time. For now, use this an an opportunity to trust Him and a stepping stone for a better future!
Now celebrate with a little Tuesday Dance 🙂
Have you ever looked back at how you responded to a Bible verse/saying/quote years ago? Do you feel the same today as you did then?
